A list of all the fashion trends we know are damaging, but still keep
buying into it just like we keep drifting back to our irresistible
situation ships.

  1. High heels

They lengthen your legs, elevate your outfit, and ruin your posture. High heels have been fashion’s most seductive torture device for decades. Despite the chronic foot pain, back issues, and risk of long term damage, heels remain a go-to for formalwear, red carpets, and “power” moments. We know they’re uncomfortable, yet we keep going back. Why? Because beauty is pain, or so we’ve been told. They’re toxic, yes, but that satisfying rhythmic beat still has us hooked.

  1. Long acrylic nails

They make a statement, but often at the cost of practicality. From opening
soda cans to texting, long acrylics turn basic tasks into high-drama
performances. They’re expensive to maintain and can damage natural nails in the long run. Still, they’re a trend we can’t quit, whether it’s for the satisfying ASMR of tapping them on glass or the illusion of glam and power they provide. A mess? Totally. But we’ll book another appointment anyway.

  1. Micro bags

They’re barely big enough to fit a lipstick or one Air Pods, yet micro bags walk every runway and dominate Instagram aesthetics. Brands market them as “statement pieces,” but their functionality is laughable. Still, we carry them proudly, even if we need an extra tote to hold everything else. They’re impractical, overpriced, and utterly adorable. A classic case of fashion over function.

  1. Low rise jeans

The Y2K trend that refuses to stay in the past. Low-rise jeans are notorious for being body-exclusive and uncomfortable. They dig into the hips, offer no coverage, and spark anxiety about sitting or bending down. Despite that, they’ve crept back into wardrobes thanks to celebrity culture and algorithm-fed nostalgia. We know they’re a red flag for comfort, but we still want own the room in them, even if we’re pulling them up every five minutes.

  1. Micro sunglasses

With frames that barely cover the eyes, micro sunglasses are more aesthetic than functional. They offer little to no UV protection and sometimes sit so lowon the nose, it’s unclear whether they’re helping or just vibing. Still, they scream editorial chic and give off “too cool to care” energy. Logical? No. But they do elevate a selfie, and sometimes, that’s enough.

  1. Overstuffed tote bags

The idea: functional and stylish. The reality: a shoulder pain waiting to happen. Totes start off helpful but quickly become black holes of overpacking. You throw in “just in case” items until it’s heavier than a school backpack. Yet we love them, for the illusion of being prepared, for their aesthetic, or simply because they look good in airport photos. Practicality comes second to the persona they help us project.
